A Message From Our President
The purpose of this new website is to reconnect with over 350,000 National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC) Scholars who have received awards since 1956. NMSC is a privately funded, not-for-profit organization that was established in 1955 in response to the nation's need to remain competitive in a rapidly changing world. Its sole purpose is to promote the development of future leaders and innovators by identifying academically talented students and encouraging them to use their intellectual abilities to the fullest. This mission remains as relevant today, if not more so, as it was then. Each year, NMSC conducts two nationwide academic competitions for high school students—the National Merit Scholarship Program and the National Achievement Scholarship Program—through which more than 10,000 distinguished students receive college scholarships. Approximately 250 corporate organizations and 200 colleges and universities underwrite the majority of these awards. The success of NMSC's programs is validated by the accomplishments of scholarship winners who go on to excel in challenging undergraduate work and successfully embark on a wide array of graduate programs and career paths.
